Piano recital Grigory Sokolov

Grandmaster - Sokolov is a phenomenon. He is an absolute star, and yet he prevents any hype about his person. Self-promotion does not enter his mind. He has no airs and graces; he gives interviews only once in a blue moon. And when he does make a verbal statement, there is one topic he would always prefer to leave out: himself. But Grigory Sokolov doesn't want to make a secret of himself. The music should simply be in the foreground and nothing should distract from it. Sokolov gives around 70 concerts a year. When he rushes onto the stage, bending over the keys, nothing distracts from the event. And this always has an exceptional character: with a sharp musical mind, he penetrates the great masterpieces down to the smallest detail and reveals insights that - whether
with Bach, Schubert or Beethoven - are so extremely rare. But it is by no means only the monumental works of the classical-romantic piano literature that come to the fore with him. His Mozart also breathes spiritual brilliance
, lively lightness glows through the miniatures of a Rameau or Purcell.

Sokolov has long since sworn off large-scale performances with orchestra and plays exclusively recitals. Programmatically, he leaves no one but himself the choice: He develops a single program
per season and always exchanges one half of the concert after half a year. What he will perform, he leaves in the dark for a long time. Only he knows into which cosmos of works he will go next. The only important thing in his choice of repertoire: "I absolutely have to want to play it." There is no doubt that his audience will want to hear it!
