Piano concert for the Chinese New Year

February 17, 2026 marks the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse in China. To mark this occasion, the Confucius Institute at the University campus Freiburg and the China Forum Freiburg e.V. cordially invite you to welcome the Chinese New Year with a special piano concert in Freiburg and celebrate together!

As a musical treasure hunter with a fascination for foreign cultures, pianist Lydia Maria Bader introduces her audience to composers and music off the beaten track and finds new perspectives in beloved classics. In a festive setting, Western compositions meet famous Chinese folk songs with an impressive tonal language - a special bridge between East and West. Ten tours of China and her appointment as cultural ambassador for the province of Gansu have led to Bader's close connection with China. The pianist's background stories make this concert a special experience.

Lydia Maria Bader began playing the piano at the age of four. Her training took her to the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and the Munich Academy of Music, where she was accepted as a junior student at the age of 15. She is a multiple 1st national prize winner of Jugend musiziert, a prize winner of international competitions and has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras at home and abroad.
