Art in public spaces in Gutleutmatten

The artist Anna Schütten won the limited competition for "KiöR in Gutleutmatten" in 2023. She studied Fine Arts at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe / Freiburg branch and Epistemic Media (Sound & Reality) at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Her installation brace uses two steel brackets embedded in the green space to create an intermediate space that can also be used as a presentation area.

Until fall 2028, Anna Schütten's work will form the framework and starting point for further artistic interventions selected by curator Hanna Weber under the title "Gardens of Ambivalence". The French-Swiss dance company Cie La Secousse will kick things off following the opening of "KiöR Gutleutmatten". Under the title "Yellow Sonic - Quartier-Sinfonie Gutleutmatten", they will explore the sounds and noises of the district together with the residents. There will be a sound performance with visual elements at various stations in Gutleutmatten.

The background

Six years ago, the then Art Commission decided to use surplus funds from the construction of the Gutleutmatten district for the implementation of "Art in Public Space" (KiöR). The municipal council took up the art commission's proposal and approved funds of 100,000 euros for the project in July 2022.

The concept for "KiöR Gutleutmatten" developed by the Department of Culture focuses on changing artistic interventions so that several local and international artists and curators can be involved. The starting point is always the permanent intervention brace.
