These poetic thoughts by Alfred Noyes, set to music by Jake Runestad, form the thematic framework of the Herdermer Vokalensemble's current concert program. J. S. Bach put all his skill into his motets for two four-part choirs, although they were probably only composed as occasional music for funerals. If "Komm, Jesu, komm" and "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied" were also created for such occasions, they are more consolation music than mourning music.
Music by old masters such as Joh. L. Bach, Josquin des Prez, Johann Rosenmüller and contemporary choral works by Martin Asander and Don Macdonald tie in with this in terms of sound, sometimes musically in their double-choir arrangement or spinning the thread further thematically.
