Lirum Larum Reading Festival

Since 1994, the Cultural Office has organized the Freiburg Children's Literature Festival in cooperation with Theater Freiburg (since 2007) and Literaturhaus Freiburg (since 2017).

The focus is on the encounter with about 12 reading guests who read to children between six and ten years of age from their freshly published works. In cooperation with elementary schools, district libraries, cultural institutions, associations and bookstores, about 50 events around the world of children's literature will take place across the city over 8 days.

The festival is framed by two major events: To kick off the festival, the Literaturhaus Freiburg will host the opening reading, which will be followed by a hands-on workshop and a supporting program. The finale of the festival will be celebrated at the Theater Freiburg. Readings, exhibitions and activities will take place on all stages.
