Scotland, deepest Middle Ages: After the general Macbeth returns victorious from the battlefield, he and his friend Banquo meet three mysterious witches in a nearby forest. They predict a bright future for him, a title of nobility and imminent kingship. Spurred on by his wife's blind ambition, which drives him to help the prophecy through violence, Macbeth shortly afterwards murders the rightful King Duncan and directs suspicion towards his sons, who are then forced to flee abroad.
But as soon as Macbeth becomes king, the tyrant fears even his closest confidants: he has his friend Banquo killed by two hired assassins. But Macbeth's bloodlust is boundless and madness increasingly takes hold of the Kingslayer's mind. So he once again seeks the advice of the witches, who prophesy that no man born of a woman can ever be dangerous to Macbeth. But the counterattack is already in full swing.
One of the greatest plays in world literature, William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" is still a valid metaphor for dictatorships all over the world. A high-tension thriller in a class of its own and the highlight of the upcoming theater season in the Freiburg "Immoralisten" production
