More EU debt for a better future? The prospect of new European financial instruments

Since the pandemic, the European Union has taken on substantial debt for the first time in its history. It has used the loans to try to limit the economic and social damage caused by the pandemic and to promote Europe's economic development. The European Commission has also introduced new debt instruments for the upcoming new EU financial framework. European debt is associated with many fears, especially in Germany. In this lecture, the speaker will present the facts on the scope and construction of the new EU debt and discuss the opportunities and risks. Speaker: Prof. Dr. Friedrich Heinemann (ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, Mannheim; Member of the Speakers-Pool Team EUROPE DIRECT of the European Commission) Europe Direct Freiburg in cooperation with the colloquium politicum of the University of Freiburg
