Michael Moos: "And nothing was the same again..."

In his Swabian-Jewish family history, Michael Moos, a Freiburg lawyer, criminal defense attorney and long-time local councillor for the Left List, traces the fascinating path of his family, which was at home in Swabia for centuries as cattle traders and peddlers.

Until the Nazis came - and the Moos parents fled to Palestine via London in 1936.

When they left Tel Aviv in 1953, they were the only Ulm-born Jews to return to their old homeland. Michael Moos talks about the painful return to his parents' hometown of Ulm and his own committed departure.

In Freiburg, he discovered his passion for local politics and helped write the city's recent history.
