Mirrianne Mahn: Issa - reading and conversation

Book tickets

Issa doesn't actually want to go on this trip. Pregnant, she is on a plane to Douala, at her mother's insistence, to follow the path of rituals in Cameroon, the land of her childhood, under the eagle eyes of her grandmothers and to get in touch with her ancestors. In her debut novel "Issa" (Rowohlt, 2024), Mirrianne Mahn artfully interweaves the life stories of women from five generations between Germany and Cameroon, who are linked by colonial exploitation and trauma, but also by the pursuit of female self-empowerment.

On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT), Weertje Willms (German Seminar, University campus Freiburg) and students will be in conversation with the author.
