Mithu Sanyal: Antichristie - 38th Freiburg Literature Talk: Reading and discussion with Anna Gojer

Book tickets

Her debut novel "Identitti" (2021) was promptly shortlisted for the German Book Prize - and on stage at the Stadttheater, staged by director Jessica Glause and dramaturge Anna Gojer. While Mithu Sanyal dealt with questions of origin, identity and racism here, "Antichristie" (Hanser, 2024) focuses on the persistence of colonialism.

London 2022, the Queen has just died. Running past the mourners is Durga, an international screenwriter, daughter of an Indian and a German, full of appetite for rebellion and hallucinations. She is supposed to be working on a film adaptation of the super-British Agatha Christie crime novels. But suddenly we find ourselves in the year 1906, and Durga meets Indian revolutionaries who are by no means fighting non-violently like Gandhi. The first bomb explodes. What does real resistance look like in a false world?
