MÜLLER.ICH - Interdisciplinary production of Franz Schubert's "Die schöne Müllerin"

The song cycle Die schöne Müllerin by Franz Schubert traces the path of a journeyman miller. Unable to enter into a real dialog with a human counterpart, the miller loses himself in fantasies and delusional states. In his increasing isolation, the only thing he has to talk to is the brook. And: his smartphone.

Taking up highly topical themes - isolation, media polarization and hate speech - the interdisciplinary production MÜLLER.ICH opens up new perspectives on Schubert's songs. In an interweaving of music, video, sound collages and scenic elements, the MÜLLER.ICH project exposes all the emotions in Schubert's song cycle that are currently shaping our social interaction: Longing and confidence on the one hand, aggression and fear on the other.
