"Lux aeterna" - From shadow to eternal light
The girls' choir at Freiburg Minster invites you to a moving concert entitled "Lux aeterna" on Sunday, November 9 at 5 p.m. in Freiburg Minster. Under the direction of Martina van Lengerich, the audience can expect a special sound experience and a profound musical journey that invites them to remember and commemorate the dead on this memorable date.
At the center of the evening is the famous Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with additions by Franz Xaver Süßmayr. The "hot off the press" arrangement for saxophone orchestra by Andreas van Zoelen lends the familiar sound experience a fascinating dimension and allows it to shine in a new light.
The Requiem is complemented by poignant vocal works that focus on both human transience and the Christian hope of resurrection and eternal life: the double-choir motet "Unser Leben ist ein Schatten" by Johann Bach, as well as two a cappella settings of the "Lux aeterna" text - a choral version of Edward Elgar's famous Nimrod and a modern composition by Michelle Roueché.
The girls' choir and the male voices of Freiburg Cathedral Music will be supported by top-class guests: the renowned Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and the Raschèr Saxophone Academy as well as Sibylla Rubens (soprano), Hanna Roos (alto), Hans Jörg Mammel (tenor) and Thomas Laske (bass).
