Steffen Hoppe is now standing in the warming sun, just a few meters above a billowing sea of clouds. The highest peak on the island, the Piton des Neiges, 3070 m, towers lonely above it. The world below? Mysterious! The island of La Réunion lies between Madagascar and Mauritius and impresses with a diversity of flora and fauna like no other island in the world. Waterfalls, rainforests, volcanoes and alpine mountain peaks - the different microclimates have created a unique natural environment on La Réunion, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
