Wandering dunes, frankincense trees, sons of the desertHardy Fiebig grew up in Cairo, speaks Arabic and is a gifted storyteller. In his new lecture, which is as informative as it is entertaining, the expert on the Orient shows the diversity of Oman with a mischievous, photographic eye and rhetorical excellence.
From the northernmost tip - the Musandam peninsula at the entrance to the Persian-Arabian Gulf - Arabia expert Hardy Fiebig sets off on a journey through the entire sultanate to the frankincense province of Dhofar in the far south. In contrast to many other oil states, the Sultanate of Oman has cautiously made its way towards modern times and has therefore retained a traditional character in many respects - although the Omanis' peculiar mixture of traditional awareness and love of technology sometimes makes you smile. With their disarming warmth and hospitality, they are certainly the country's greatest treasure. Thanks to his knowledge of Arabic, Hardy Fiebig takes part in the everyday life of Bedouin families, oasis farmers, camel breeders, animal traders and incense collectors.
