Scandinavian choral music - and in particular Sweden's rich choral tradition - has enjoyed great popularity in our part of the world for several decades now. Starting with great choral conductors and composers such as Eric Ericson, Knut Nystedt or Arvo Pärt and Einojuhani Rautavaara, an extremely powerful choral scene has developed that has striven (and continues to strive) for ever new and exciting choral literature. In the slipstream of the "Swedish choral miracle" around Eric Ericson, the choral scenes in the neighboring countries of Norway, Denmark and Finland also flourished, and with the fall of the Iron Curtain - also known in the Baltic States as the "Singing Revolution" - an extremely lively and sophisticated choral culture also developed in the former Soviet republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as in Poland.
With our program Musica baltica - Music of the Baltic Sea Region, we would like to take our audience on a journey into the soundscapes of these choral cultures.
