Nils Wogram Vertigo Trombone Quartet - Openness

Book tickets

The Vertigo Trombone Quartet brings together four of the most creative trombonists on the German and Swiss scene: Nils Wogram, Andreas Tschopp, Bernhard Bamert and Jan Schreiner. Playing at the highest musical level, the ensemble does away with the cliché that the trombone is cumbersome.
It is more like a light-footed string quartet that incorporates all the special features of this versatile brass instrument. Contemporary melody formation, rhythmic precision and the depth of the blues or a Bruckner-like motet are fused into an organic listening experience.
In September 2024, the Vertigo Trombone Quartet will release its third album entitled "Openness" (nWog records). The four trombonists not only act as performing musicians with all their technical brilliance, but also take joint responsibility for the compositions. The individual signatures remain recognizable and ensure entertaining variety in the program. To use Nils Wogram's words, which are apt for a trombone quartet in both senses of the word: "Everyone gets their say."
The quartet has chosen human coexistence and social models as the theme and inspiration for "Openness". This is explored in a mix of composition and improvisation and implemented in musical interaction.
Vertigo chose a ballroom from the 1950s in Bremen for the recordings. The band spent five days living, rehearsing and recording in the so-called Studio Nord.
