Opera in the church: organ and Gregorian chant in the orchestral score, an all-female cast, a young mother as the title character, banished to a 17th century convent, cantilenas with a noble melodiousness: these are the ingredients for Puccini's mystical-religious one-act opera, which depicts the entire emotional palette of a Passion setting and dramaturgically the stages of a Way of the Cross - from prayer to the miracle. The choirs of the Christuskantorat are now entering the operatic genre for this production and what setting could be more suitable than the many galleries of the Christuskirche?
