When Louis Armstrong went from New Orleans to Chicago
in 1922 to play in King Oliver's band, when people drank
whiskey from teacups and smoked cigarettes from long
carved necks, when the skirts and hairstyles
of the young ladies became shorter: that's when hot
jazz was born, the unmistakable jazz style to which
the REDHOUSE HOT SIX from Freiburg
have dedicated themselves.
Louis Armstrong, King Oliver and of course Duke Ellington
are therefore the godfathers when the band gets going. Or
to put it another way: "The band was simply unstoppable
....the whole place was one big bubbling
cauldron... I had the feeling that the roof
was going to lift off the ceiling!" (Quote)
With this in mind, let yourself be surprised and be
carried away into a cultivated frenzy of really good
music.
