In cooperation with Informationsstelle Peru e.V. and Archdiocese of Freiburg, Department for the Universal Church The processing of gold and copper has a long history in Peru. The gold treasures of the Incas were legendary. But it was not until the Spanish conquest that the great plundering and massive mining of precious metals began. Today, Peru still relies on mining, which has become one of its most important economic sectors. The raw materials are also in great demand here: gold for jewelry or as an investment, copper and other metals for cell phones, laptops and so-called "green" technologies. Using gold as an example, the exhibition shows how the metals are mined in Peru and what environmental problems and social impacts mining projects have. What responsibility do companies, politicians and consumers have? What positive approaches and alternatives are there? What can we do to support them? 16 panels on the history and present of (gold) mining in Peru. - Registration required.
