Around the ship - Freiburg's lower town (guided tour)

A lot of "troublemakers" are packed into a relatively small area: the far too ostentatious municipal theater, the impossible skyscraper that threatened to compete with the cathedral, the appalling block of the university library and a few other "building sins" without which Freiburg would certainly be poorer. On closer inspection of the architecture, however, many a harsh judgment turns out to be milder. The old synagogue square, which occupies a key position with its memorial fountain to the synagogue that was deliberately destroyed by the Nazis, was also initially met with rejection - today hundreds of users cavort there, and not just on warm summer nights. The time-honored "ship", where many a penny-pincher was set on course, is also remembered in a prominent urban location. - Registration required.
