Music with string instruments from classical to jazz: from 12 to 17 May 2025, teachers and students of string and plucked instruments will be organizing a festival at the College of Music Freiburg. Almost all of the teachers of these subjects will be performing - an opportunity for the audience to hear renowned musicians who rarely play in Freiburg due to their international concert activities. The program includes pieces for small and large ensembles, including some that are rarely performed.
Saitenspiele IV: Musical fireworks without a conductor
The festival concludes with "Saitenspiele IV: London and beyond" with musical fireworks: teachers and students perform the last of Joseph Haydn's "London Symphonies" - without a conductor, as was customary in the 18th century. Instead, the symphony and the other pieces of the evening are conducted from the orchestra by violin professor Gottfried von der Goltz. Before that, there will be several pieces in which teachers will appear as soloists: for example in the rarely performed "Concertone in C major" (KV 190) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for two violins, oboe and cello, in Joseph Haydn's "Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major" and in the "Trauermusik" by Paul Hindemith. "I'm really looking forward to this evening. It's a great orchestral concert with many of our fabulous teachers as soloists. A crowning finale," says Muriel Cantoreggi.
