Samuel Gapp & Rodrigo Brandão - AXÉ

Free entry

We are delighted to present the first public performance in an ongoing artistic collaboration between composer and pianist Samuel Gapp and Brazilian spoken word artist Rodrigo Brandão. Their joint research process explores the reciprocal relationships between different thematic fields: Transculturality and postcolonial issues as well as aspects of ritual and ceremony in music. The artists always refer to the tension between composition and improvisation in the sense of "European", written tradition versus oral tradition. The main focus is on the meeting of different culture-specific backgrounds, which enter into a relationship through a playful approach.

Samuel Gapp is a pianist and composer whose work explores the interfaces between free improvisation, composed music and transdisciplinary performance, placing particular emphasis on cultural exchange and new forms of collaboration.

Rodrigo Brandão is a Brazilian spoken word artist who powerfully expresses themes such as social justice, spirituality and Afro-Brazilian identity in his poetic performances.
