Writing and narrating memory: literary encounter with the Chilean writer Nona Fernández
Saturday, 28/02/2026 / 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM / Goethe-Institut e.V.
Free entry
Together with the Spanish-speaking cultural association Tertulia Freiburg, the Goethe-Institut Freiburg invites you to an evening with the Chilean writer Nona Fernández.
Nona Fernández, born in Santiago de Chile in 1971, is an outstanding Chilean actress, playwright and writer, known for exploring the historical and personal memory of the Chilean dictatorship in her works - including novels such as "Mapocho" and "Space Invaders" as well as plays such as "El taller". Her work is characterized by a conscious remembrance of the Pinochet dictatorship (1973-1990) and a deep feminist commitment. Her literary work aims to link subjective, intimate memories with collective memory - a counter-project to official historiography. She sees writing as an act of historical responsibility in order to make unspoken stories visible and embed individual experiences in public discourse.
She has received major awards for her work, including the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize.
The talk will be held in Spanish with German translation.
Look forward to an exciting evening and enjoy the opportunity to talk over a glass of wine afterwards.
