Book ticketsThe tension is rising, the stage is ready: On May 15, all slam fans can once again look forward to the Theater Freiburg Science Slam. Young scientists from all over Germany will bring the latest from their research to the big stage in entertaining presentations and ensure an evening full of entertainment, inspiration and science.
Dennis Gref's slam will focus on how the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide is created from nitrogen in the soil and escapes into the atmosphere. He will show why this loss is ecologically problematic and what role soil processes play in this - based on his own field research into nutrient cycles.
Julia Braun will also be in Freiburg. In her slam, she will be discussing dialects and the difference between them and standard language. To this end, historical tape recordings from the 1950s will be played, on which speakers born in the 19th century can still be heard. This makes language change audible. Based on this, the focus is on changes between dialect and standard as well as a research project on the Swabian perfect tense.
In his lecture, musicologist Jakob Uhlig takes us into the world of music historiography and the recurring question of who actually invented what first. He focuses on the so-called twelve-tone music of the composer Arnold Schönberg, whose entire estate (i.e. music, texts, photographs, letters etc.) is part of the world's documentary heritage. This is quite remarkable in comparison, as only one composition by Bach or Beethoven is included. You can find out how such classifications come about and why Arnold Schönberg is accorded such importance in the slam. You can hear these and other exciting topics on May 15 in Freiburg!
