Simon Graupner, Leipzig's indie sensation, better known under his pseudonym "Shelter Boy", is quickly establishing himself as one of the outstanding German songwriters of his generation. Shelter Boy first gained attention as support for Boy Pablo and Gus Dapperton. But since then he has taken the music scene by storm, quickly building a loyal fan base that shows no signs of slowing down. Shelly will release his second studio album "MERCYLAND" on April 26, 2024 via Scruff of the Neck Records, with which he will go on tour in October and November. Of course, his live band around guitarist Fabian "Ernie Fizz" Wiegand will be there again.

His last album Failure Familiar from 2021 earned Graupner critical acclaim and comparisons with artists such as King Krule and Mac DeMarco. With his new album MERCYLAND, Shelter Boy turns to a more introspective blend of indie pop that showcases his diverse talents as a lyricist and musician. MERCYLAND is a modern Bildungsroman, following Graupner on his journey from adolescence to young adulthood through moments of self-discovery, dream chasing and love. Along the way, he grapples with his identity, exploring themes such as the deconstruction of masculinity and the exploration of mental health in a new narrative style that is as emotive as it is candid.

In the album's opener, the buoyant PARADE, Shelly revisits his younger years (as he sings in the song), exploring his journey from smoking weed in skate parts, bored and disoriented, to a time spent collaborating with artists across genres, writing two albums and playing some of the biggest festivals of his dreams. The song begins as an acoustic-led track before transitioning into a barrage of bright, cascading guitars, addressing the naysayers that initially held him back from a career in music.

Shelter Boy's surprisingly British sound has brought him great success in the UK - from his recent signing to Manchester record label 'Scruff of the Neck' to live slots with Bilk and various festivals including the upcoming Y Not? Festival in Derby. In the past Shelly has been supported both internationally and nationally by BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio, BR Puls (GER) as well as tastemakers such as Fred Perry, CLOUT and DIY Mag.
