Varieties of water use between Sandfang and St. Ottilien
Thursday, 03/07/2025 / 06:00 PM - 08:30 PM /
Price: 15.00€
In cooperation with VISTAtour and ARGE Freiburger Stadtbild - The guided tour from Sandfang to St. Ottilien is about very different ways of using water from the Middle Ages to the present day: the diversion of the industrial canal at Sandfang is a reminder of the life-giving function of water in the irrigation of agricultural land, but also of the fact that water has always been an important economic factor, for example in the production of hydropower. You will learn how the Dreisam was transformed from a wild river into a canal and has recently been partially restored to its natural state. Other topics include the Kartaus, the Stromschlössle on the Kartausbach and a Nepomuk statue with a mysterious inscription. The second half of the tour leads along the Way of the Cross to St. Ottilien, where the healing effect of water is explored in the legend of St. Odilia, who fled to Freiburg.
Duration 2-2.5 hours, walking distance (outward journey) approx. 6 km, stamina required. The tour ends at the St. Ottilien forest restaurant (refreshments available there). Please bring a flashlight if necessary. - Registration required.
