District festival to mark the start of the Zähringen climate quarter

Let's get started with a festival!

The official launch of the Zähringen Climate Quarter will take place on September 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. on Platz der Zähringer - in the form of a street festival with music, fun and games for children, creative workshops and lots of inspiring climate-related activities.

How about a test ride on a cargo bike? Or a mini consultation on balcony solar systems? Or simply try some climate-friendly snacks? It's all there! And best of all: you can pass on your wishes and ideas directly to the project team on site.

The project will be officially launched at 4.15 pm by Mayor Christine Buchheit (Environment, Youth, Schools and Education). The program of the festival will be published here soon.

Information on the climate quarter:
After the successful start in Waldsee, Zähringen is now also setting course for the future: from September 2025 to the end of 2026, the district will become Freiburg's new climate quarter. In addition to CO₂ and solar panels, the focus here is on togetherness, participation and a better quality of life for everyone.

Why Zähringen?

Because Zähringen is one of the most diverse districts in Freiburg: with its lively club culture, a colorful mix of committed people and active neighborhood work, Zähringen is perfect for breaking new ground in climate protection - together and directly on site. "Our aim is to get into conversation with local people," says project manager Julia Wegenast. "We want to look together at what climate protection can look like here - and how we can use it to improve life in the district."

Pooling energy

A good climate in the district can only be achieved together: local initiatives and associations are already on board. They contribute ideas, energy and a lot of passion - and ensure that the project is not only climate-friendly, but also really lively.
