Susanne Siegert: Rethinking remembrance - reading and discussion in the Counter Words series with Julia Wolrab

"Everything you DON'T learn about Nazi crimes at school": this is the slogan of Susanne Siegert's social media profiles, who has been educating hundreds of thousands of people about the Holocaust on TikTok and Instagram since 2020. In "Gedenken neu denken" (Piper, 2025), she sums up her extensive research and mediation experience and shows why our culture of remembrance urgently needs to change. Siegert argues for new, pluralistic remembrance work with a focus on the responsibility of the descendants of the generation of perpetrators instead of the "rehearsed" joint review from the perspective of the persecuted.
