The Slaughterhouse System – Work, Dignity, and Necessary Change

What is the situation for people who work in slaughterhouses, and what changes does the meat production system need? A panel discussion will address these questions on Wednesday, July 1, at 7 p.m. at the Archdiocesan Seminary Collegium Borromaeum in Freiburg, as well as online.

The panelists will be Father Peter Kossen (Diocese of Münster) and Ulrich Reichenbach (Reichenbach Butcher Shop, Glottertal).

Slaughterhouses are a central component of meat production, yet they remain largely invisible to many people. Employees work under high physical and psychological pressure and kill animals from industrial factory farming on a daily basis. The discussion will shed light on the consequences of this work and explore perspectives for a necessary systemic change.

The Catholic Academy of Freiburg is organizing the event in collaboration with the Creation and Environment Office of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the Breisgau-Black Forest-Baar Workplace Ministry, and the Catholic Workers’ Movement of Freiburg.

Admission is free. Please register at www.katholische-akademie-freiburg.de.
