Tartüff oder Der Geistige - Comedy by John von Düffel - Premiere

Book tickets

The highest happiness through the fulfillment of our individual lust and greed is out - asceticism is the order of the day!
It therefore suits the entrepreneur Orgon well that his friend Tartüff, who lives with him, makes fiery pleas for saving, even if he doesn't always stick to it himself. Orgon's business is going badly and his personal fortune is dwindling - so Tartüff's attitude helps to make it clear to the family that they now have to tighten their belts! Orgon's wife Elmire is not amused, as she only married her husband for his money; and Orgon's children Damis and Mariane have firmly counted on becoming rich heirs. At least Madame Pernelle, Orgon's mother, is completely on Tartüff's side, even though her life of luxury is partly to blame for their misery! Threatened by an acute loss of wealth, suddenly everyone is fighting against everyone else!

John von Düffel's comedy combines motifs from Molière's Tartuffe and The Miser to create a trenchant appraisal of our present day.
