Udo W. Hoffmann: Fragmented Spaces

Free entry

UDO W. HOFFMANN (*1964, Freiburg i. Br.) explores the dynamics of space, form and material by dismantling existing structures and giving them a new purpose in art. His constructions are created from found objects from building sites and everyday objects that he encounters as an attentive observer on his forays. He takes them apart, breaks them open, exposes layers. Functional building materials become artistic material that forms the basis for wall and floor objects. In the process of transformation, the materials are fragmented into geometric forms, rearranged and condensed into independent bodies and surfaces. New bodies are created. In juxtaposition and superimposition, Udo W. Hoffmann constructs assemblages in which function recedes in favor of form.
The exhibition sequence of the year 2025 combines the concept of a solo exhibition with that of a group exhibition. Curator Isabelle von Marschall has invited three artists to work on the theme of space from different perspectives. They will intervene in the existing architecture and develop space-specific works, making the existing exhibition hall the subject of their artistic work.

In all three exhibitions, the mathematical-geometric concept of space becomes the basis for socio-psychological spatial experiences. The central perspective thus becomes a topos for the experience of space in relation to the artwork.
