Building blocks for good and fair housing
Is the housing shortage in Germany less a lack of housing and more a problem of unfair distribution? This question will be the subject of a panel discussion on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 pm at the Catholic Academy Freiburg, Wintererstr. 1. The event is being held in cooperation with the Diocesan Office for Creation and the Environment of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and Klimaschutz im Bundestag e.V. and will also be broadcast online.
The last German government had the goal of creating 400,000 new homes every year. However, traditional new construction has considerable disadvantages - including high costs, land sealing and a large ecological footprint. According to a study by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development, existing areas and buildings offer enough potential to meet demand - for example by converting, adding storeys or using existing buildings more efficiently.
The discussion will therefore focus on the question of how much living space per person we can and want to afford in view of ecological limits and social justice.
The panelists include:
- Anja Bierwirth, Wuppertal Institute, Head of the Urban Change Research Unit
- Nadyne Saint-Cast MdL (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN)
- Robert Staible, City of Freiburg, Head of the Office for Housing Development and Surveying
The event will be accompanied by a market of opportunities where initiatives and projects from the field of sufficient living will be presented - including the building association "Who owns the city?" in the Mietshäuser Syndikat, Dachgenossenschaft Wohnen für Alle eG, Klimaschutz im Bundestag e.V., Energieagentur Regio Freiburg, sumi architektur, Team Tinyhouse and Werk.um Architektur.
The event is recognized by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects as further education and training with one lesson for members and architects/urban planners in internship.
Admission is free. Registration at: www.katholische-akademie-freiburg.de
