Virtuoso flute quartets
On Saturday, May 10 at 8.15 pm, the Camerata Instrumentale will open this year's season of department store serenades with its 270th concert since its foundation in the Kaminsaal of the historical merchants' hall on Münsterplatz. The program includes the virtuoso 2nd Flute Quartet by Gioacchino Rossini, the quite extraordinary 6th Quartet by Ferdinand Ries, former assistant and pupil of Beethoven, and the "Cypresses" by Antonín Dvorák. Originally part of a love song cycle, they were later completely and ingeniously arranged for string quartet by the composer. Four of them are also particularly suitable for flute quartet. The program also includes Schubert's String Trio in B flat major and two short works by Frank Michael that refer to each other: Dithyrambos op. 109 No. 6 for flute solo and Dionysia op. 128 for flute, violin and cello. The musicians are Frank Michael flute, Miriam Rudolph violin, Ulrike Rüttgardt violoncello and Ute Hüffmann violoncello.
