Michael Praetorius was a key figure of his time as a composer and theorist. Today, his simple "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen" is best known, but he created a huge body of work.

He was a pioneer of basso continuo practice and the polychoral style originating in Venice. Praetorius also had role models: In his encyclopaedia "Syntagma Musicum" he mentions over 50 (!) composers. In this concert, the audience can expect rarities between the Renaissance and Baroque periods: small and large-scale works by Praetorius and his contemporaries Agazzari, Cifra, Mancinus and Weißensee.
