The art of opening up to the world.
Listening, being heard, engaging in dialog at eye level - these are buzzwords of our time, empty formulas of political rhetoric. But what does it mean to really listen, to question one's own convictions, to expose oneself to the worldview of others? Why have people not listened to the victims of sexual abuse for so long, why not to the warnings about climate change? Bernhard Pörksen shows which mechanisms prevent people from listening - whether in private or in public. And he presents approaches and methods that enable a new openness, deeper understanding and empathic listening. The key question is: how do you reach those you can no longer reach?
Bernhard Pörksen, born in 1969, is Professor of Media Studies at the University of Tübingen and is known for his work on scandal research (including "The Unleashed Scandal").The Unleashed Scandal", with H. Detel) and his books with the cyberneticist Heinz von Foerster and the psychologist Friedemann Schulz von Thun. Hanser published: "Die große Gereiztheit. Wege aus der kollektiven Erregung" (2018) and "Die Kunst des Miteinander-Redens. On dialog in society and politics" (with Friedemann Schulz von Thun, 2020).
