J.S. Bach: Christmas Oratorio 1-3 BWV 248
Concertmaster: Gottfried von der Goltz
Conductor and harpsichord: Lars Schwarze

Natalie Beck, soprano
Henriette Gödde, alto
Florian Cramer, tenor
Georg Benz, bass

What accounts for the unbroken popularity of this Bach cycle of six Christmas cantatas? Is it the rousing jubilation in the opening chorus, the weightless virtuosity in the shepherd's aria, the calm lullaby in the Sinfonia? Or is it the chorales that reflect the miracle of Jesus' birth with great emotional depth, from the heartfelt I stand by your manger to the liberating Break forth, O beautiful morning light? As listeners and as musicians, we are shaped differently and perceive music individually, but sometimes these great moments arise in concert that unite us all: All the practicing, re-lighting, honing is worth it for this happiness!
As an additional interactive music education concert, the Christuskantorei invites you to a Christmas oratorio for children. The audience is introduced to Bach's music and the baroque musical instruments in a playful way. The traditional children's choir work on site will also be included: The youth choir and Christuskantorei sing together.
