The controversial topic of meat consumption will be the subject of the panel discussion on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m. in the Archbishop's Seminary Collegium Borromaeum, Schoferstraße 1, Freiburg, as well as online. Panel guests are Martina Braun MdL (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN), Gunther Hirschfelder (cultural studies, Regensburg) and Friederike Schmitz (author, Berlin).

Globally, the food system is responsible for 20 to 35 percent of man-made greenhouse gas emissions, depending on the estimate, of which up to 80 percent is attributable to animal production - with serious consequences for the environment and animal welfare. Nevertheless, meat consumption has traditionally been seen as a private matter, shaped by culinary, cultural or moral preferences. Political intervention is often met with resistance. The panel discussion aims to initiate a social debate on the future of our food system and explore sustainable solutions.

An event organized by the Catholic Academy of Freiburg in cooperation with the Office for Creation and the Environment of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and the Musella Foundation for a Socio-Ecological Future.
