How much home do people need - today?

Free entry

In our culture, "home" was clearly defined in word and deed: it meant house and farm, property and origin - in the sense of legal history as well as in a very real sense. If you didn't have them, you were literally homeless.

In the 19th century, the old borders fell. Home in the old sense became more and more a phantom and a symbol; also a place of longing, a place for dreams and ideologies. The wars of the 20th century led to unprecedented population movements in Europe. And to a loss of homeland on an unprecedented scale. As a result, "homeland" became a mined field - and today, in its new political use, it seems more so than ever. What does this mean for how we deal with home today, in a Europe of many ethnicities and cultures?
