On November 27, 2025, students of the College of Music Freiburg will play organ works by former professors and graduates of the college. Among them are rarely played or never before performed pieces by Zsigmond Szathmáry, Hermann Gottschewski or Mesías Maiguashca. The contemporary music covers a broad spectrum from calm to rousing.
On November 27, 2025, organ students from the Freiburg College of Music will perform works by composers who are associated with Freiburg and the Freiburg College of Music. The program includes "Winds With Fingers" by Andreas Fervers, "Baptism of Fire" by Zsigmond Szathmary, "The Cathedral and the Sea" by Mesías Maiguashca, and Hermann Gottschewski's "Meditation and Fugue on 'A Mighty Fortress is Our God'". The musicians, who studied or lived in Freiburg, are members of the "Interessengemeinschaft Freiburger Komponistinnen und Komponisten". Its aim is to introduce the Freiburg public to new music by composers with a connection to the city. The concert was organized by association chairman Wolfgang Motz, who was a professor of aural training at the Freiburg College of Music. "It will be a very varied evening. With some composers who have lived abroad for a long time, you can hear these influences in their musical language. There are quiet pieces full of strength and energy, but also lively ones such as 'The Cathedral and the Sea', in which the organ sounds as if it is being washed over by the sea at the end. And Zsigmond Szathmary's 'Feuertaufe' (Baptism of Fire) is a real blast," describes Wolfgang Motz.
