We find city

"We are building a new city, it should be the most beautiful." - In his 1930 singspiel Wir bauen eine Stadt (We're building a city ), Paul Hindemith creates a city in which there are no adults and only the children are in charge. But it is teeming with traffic wardens, bakers and mayors. Huh? Who actually speaks here - and for whom? Who decides what the future looks like? The play serves "more to instruct and exercise the children themselves than to entertain the adult audience", writes Hindemith in the preface. The Theater Freiburg children's and youth choir takes him at his word and does a reality check. Hindemith's almost 100-year-old thought experiment meets visions of the future, counter-images and contradictions - from Kraftwerk, Tocotronic, Großstadtgeflüster and the children and young people themselves. Is a new city emerging now? Or something completely different?
