The band was founded in London in 1969, during the bubbling birth of the progressive rock scene. Taking advantage of the fertile musical environment, WISHBONE ASH produced a distinctive brand of melodic rock and became one of the most influential guitar bands in the history of rock. Equally inspired by traditional British folk, American jazz and R&B, the band gained public acclaim and critical acclaim. Energy and melody have made "The ASH" a hard act to beat, currently being discovered by a new generation of loyal rock fans. Over the years, the band has experimented with various musical genres, from folk, blues and jazz to pedal-to-the-metal rock and electronica. Whatever the style, WISHBONE ASH's unmistakable unique selling point is their interplay between two lead guitars, which has influenced bands such as Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden and Opeth. They made music history with their album "Argus".

As true warriors of the road, the band covers around 30,000 miles a year - the equivalent of circumnavigating the globe - earning them worldwide fame and enduring popularity. Founding member and lead singer Andy Powell joins Mark Abrahams on twin lead guitars. Bassist Bob Skeat, a band member for 25 years, sets the rhythm together with Joe Crabtree, one of the best British drummers of the younger generation.

In early 2020, "Coat of Arms" was released on the Steamhammer/SPV label in time for the band's 50th anniversary, followed by a successful anniversary tour that was completed just before the start of the pandemic. Among 12 tracks, the two outstanding rock anthems "Stand As One" (incl. music video) and "Back In The Day" form the basis of the album, which was enthusiastically received by critics and fans alike. Musically, it is as experimental as ever, with WISHBONE ASH confidently transferring their trademark sound to the present day. "Coat of Arms" entered the German album charts at number 22 - the best position the band has ever achieved in this country. With "Coat of Arms", WISHBONE ASH bring their artistic output to 25 studio albums, 11 live albums, as well as five live DVDs and the DVD rockumentary "This is Wishbone Ash".
