Piano duo Yaara Tal & Andreas Groethuysen

Solo for two - "You feel lonely when you sit alone at the piano," says an interview with Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen - and why should you do that to yourself when it's much nicer together? For around four decades, the piano couple have been conjuring up concert experiences in perfect harmony, which is just as tangible in their friendly interviews as it is in the wordless communication of their performances. At the Albert Evening, the celebrated piano duo will be performing transcriptions of works by Bach and Mozart by a colorful group of arrangers - from Nietzsche's composing childhood friend Gustav Krug to Joseph Rheinberger, who is known today primarily in a church context, to the little-known Busoni student Gino Tagliapietra.

Groethuysen emphasizes that the transfer to two pianos is always an artistically creative process; all arrangements "with their additions and additions already represent an interpretation of this work." While he compares piano versions of orchestral works to black and white photographs, which make structure and details more visible, the color palette is likely to be expanded when works are enlarged to two full keyboards. An exciting experiment in this field is Edvard Grieg's preoccupation with the sonatas of his favorite composer Mozart, in which he supplemented the original musical text with the "freely composed accompaniment of a second piano". This led to debates among his contemporaries about the inadmissible "Norwegianization" of the master, but Grieg found that: "Much of it sounds excellent, in fact so good that I have reason to hope that Mozart will not have to turn in his grave.
