"Time for Utopias" (film) — Ideas for a Sustainable Future

On July 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., Schwere(s)Los! e.V. (Kleineschholzweg 5) invites you to a film screening. The film to be shown is: “Zeit für Utopien” (Germany, 2018)

Using concrete examples, Kurt Langbein’s documentary opens up new perspectives on sustainable economic practices and collective action. Among the central figures is Petra Wähning, who turned her back on the advertising industry to develop a cooperative model on an organic farm in Bavaria. Inspired by experiences in South Korea, where production, distribution, and consumption are organized collectively, the film demonstrates how sustainable agriculture can succeed without existential uncertainties.

The film also broadens the perspective to include international initiatives: it profiles the self-managed tea factory of the Scoop-ti cooperative in Gémenos (France) and its labor struggle, as well as efforts to establish fair supply chains, using the example of a cobalt mine in Katanga that supplies raw materials for the Fairphone. The Kalkbreite housing cooperative in Zurich also brings a model of communal and sustainable living into focus.

Voices from the academic community—including economist Ulrike Herrmann—contextualize these developments and highlight the limitations of current growth models. The film views sustainability not merely as an ecological principle, but as a comprehensive approach to a self-determined life rooted in solidarity.

After the screening, there will be an opportunity for discussion over coffee and cake.
