How did the Catholic Church find its place in a shattered society after 1945 - and what role did it play in the reconstruction of the young Federal Republic? Bochum-based church historian Florian Bock will shed light on these questions in his lecture on Thursday, November 6 at 8 p.m. in the Archbishop's Seminary Collegium Borromaeum, Schoferstraße 1, Freiburg. The lecture will also be broadcast online.

Bock will trace the development of Catholicism from the "zero hour" to the years of the economic miracle and show how church life, politics and society influenced each other during this time.

The lecture opens the conference "Reappraisal, reconstruction and new beginnings. Catholicism in Southwest Germany between the end of National Socialism and the beginning of the Second Vatican Council", which will take place from November 6 to 8.

An event organized by the Catholic Academy of Freiburg in cooperation with the Church History Association for the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the History Association of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart and the Society for Middle Rhine Church History.

Admission is free. Registration at: www.katholische-akademie-freiburg.de
