Eichelbuck handling and recycling center

Freiburg's largest solar plant, which was built on the south side of the former Eichelbuck landfill site in 2011, has a total output of 2.6 MWp and covers the annual electricity needs of around 1,000 households. A new energy concept provides for the combined energy recovery of green waste in a biochar plant and a wood chip plant. It replaces the declining landfill gas that was previously used to supply the waste management facilities on the landfill site (electricity and heat). The savings amount to approx. 2,500 tons of CO2 per year.
