The Kandelhof Kino is part of Freiburg's independent cinemas, which regularly receive awards from the federal and state governments for their particularly good annual program. They also qualify for membership of the Europa Cinemas film theater network thanks to their high proportion of non-national European films. The Kandelhof Kino was even one of the first German cinemas to receive an award for the best program in Europe. Special highlights are the monthly Queer Film Night, the Gay Film Week - the oldest in Germany - and the short films. A short film is shown at the Kandelhof before every evening screening.
