Our winery
The Philipp Lang winery is based on generations of family tradition in viticulture and cooperage. In 2009, Philipp Lang founded his own winery after completing his studies at Geisenheim University. It is the southernmost winery in the city of Freiburg. Despite its young winery history, the Philipp Lang winery can already boast numerous prestigious awards.the Tuniberg, where all of the estate's vineyards are located, is characterized by deep loess-loam layers. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc grapes account for 80% of the vineyard area. The range is supplemented by Müller-Thurgau and Muscat grapes. The small proportion of Riesling grapes grows below the Ehrentrudis chapel on a narrow strip of volcanic rock. The mild climate - geographically characterized by the Burgundian Gate - allows the grapes to ripen particularly well. Even almonds, apricots and kiwis thrive here. The work in the vineyards is characterized by a natural approach. The vineyards are sown with perennial grass mixtures to increase the number of beneficial insects. The resulting ecological balance encourages predatory mites and thus enables a reduction in plant protection measures. Yields are reduced early on in the vineyards, some of which are over forty years old. During the grape harvest, attention is consistently paid to selective harvesting by hand. Both measures ensure high-quality, full-bodied wines. All white wines are not only fermented cool, but also cold. They are usually left on the lees until the spring of the following year. The high-quality wines are not bottled until the summer. The red wines are pressed by gentle destemming. They are mash-fermented and are mainly stored in wooden barrels or small barriques.
