3rd symphony concert

Maurice Ravel DAPHNIS ET CHLOÉ Suite No. 1 M. 57a Sergei Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major op. 19 Igor Stravinsky Suite from the ballet THE FIREBIRD (1945 version) Maurice Ravel's Suite No. 1, which is dedicated to Longo's story about the love story of the foundlings DAPHNIS ET CHLOÉ from late Greek antiquity, delivers exactly what the description promises: Ravel's enchanting, impressionistic music and echoes of ancient Greek pastorals. Igor Stravinsky's first ballet from his Parisian trilogy THE FIREBIRD is based on Russian folklore. The ground-breaking piece from the beginning of the 20th century is about effervescent stories about magicians, the magical firebird and a great love, and this is exactly what you hear musically in Stravinsky's emotional work. The first violin concerto by composer Sergei Prokofiev was also premiered in Paris and, with its virtuoso lightness and focus on the solo instrument, was initially overshadowed by Stravinsky's celebrated style. Nevertheless, the violin concerto impressed connoisseurs and critics from the very beginning and has become an integral part of the repertoire of major orchestras. It is a playful work full of beauty that was written against all odds in politically difficult times and is a hopeful celebration of life.
