According to Antonio Vivaldi, he wrote more than 100 operas during his career as a composer - but not all of them were of the same quality. One of the most outstanding operas from the pen of the "red priest" is Il Giustino, which was performed in Rome in 1724 and contains a multitude of magnificent arias in a wide variety of genres. The orchestra is also richly colored - typical Vivaldi.
The special feature of the premiere was that Vivaldi cast the opera exclusively with men, for example the Umbrian castrato Giacinto Fontana, who was also known as "il farfallino" (little butterfly) due to his delicate appearance.
René Jacobs already successfully performed Vivaldi's masterpiece at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden in 2022 and is now embarking on a European tour with the FBO on board. The cast includes many singers who are well-known and highly regarded by our audiences, including Christophe Dumaux as Giustino, Olivia Vermeulen as Amanzio and Kateryna Kasper as Arianna.
