The British countertenor Alexander Chance is one of the up-and-coming artists of his profession and enchants his audience with his extraordinary musicality. He has already appeared several times as a member of the Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis in concerts with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and has delighted audiences with his crystal-clear voice and sparkling intonation. Now he is making his debut in our subscription series with a solo program.
For this program, he chose two cantatas by Antonio Vivaldi that could not be more different. The first half of the concert features the sacred cantata Nisi Dominus, which Vivaldi set to music with a particularly devotional character. The second half is very spirited and Italian with the secular cantata Cessate, omai cessate, in which Vivaldi pulls out all his dramatic stops.
Not only Alexander Chance will shine in this concert program, but also the strings of the FBO. With instrumental works by Arcangelo Corelli, Pietro Locatelli and Lorenzo Gaetano Zavatieri, the violins in particular can make their instruments shimmer. Molto italiano!
